For years, the popular Goyard Saint Louis Tote has come in just two sizes: PM and GM, which are small and large, in handbag size terms, if you’re just learning the ropes. The PM is 11 inches wide across the bottom, while the GM is 13 inches wide, which makes them popular choices for day bags or carry-ons, respectively. What you might not know, though, is that the Saint Louis is intended to be a beach bag, and now the brand has released a size for people who need to carry a lot of towels down to the sand: the Goyard Saint Louis XXL Tote.

At a decidedly oversized 24 inches wide, the Saint Louis XXL nearly doubles the size of the design’s previous largest option. With a height of 16.5 inches, the total interior capacity is enormous—so much so that Goyard thickened and lengthened the handles and added extra hand stitches to the chapes, for improved support and resistance. The XXL also comes with a larger pouch than the PM and GM models.

It can be hard to imagine what a 24-inch-wide bag would look like in practical terms because almost all handbags are far smaller than that, but suffice it to say: Goyard didn’t jump, name-wise, directly from GM to XXL for no reason. The bag is decidedly intended to serve the Saint Louis’s original purpose, which is to carry a load of otherwise unwieldy outdoor necessities for a day at the beach. Although the bag is reinforced in the handles, it’s still very lightweight and unstructured, so I’d use caution in overfilling the XXL with heavy items. It seems best used as intended.

The Saint Louis XXL is currently available in four colors of Goyardine canvas: black with black trim and black with tan trim, both of which are priced at $1,780 in the US, as well as navy and grey, which are priced at $2,310. The bag is brand new and available for purchase at Goyard boutiques.

I don’t get the appeal…. But I guess there are people who have something against LV monogram bags so they go to Goyard. To me, it looks like a black plastic bag with faux leather handles that’s been painted on–very functional but ugly.

Also, I’d just get myself a Longchamp Le Pliage if I’m made to choose between LV Neverfull and Goyard St. Louis tote. Save the rest of my money for something else….

I know right… longchamp le pliage bags are wonderful. Now THAT bag I take to the beach… the gym… work… I’m like you I’d rather put my money towards something long lasting and durable.

I love Le Pliage! They are still chic even though they’re priced at 2K and totally practical to take to the beach, playground, and picnics!

It would be great to see these and other totes put through a “stress” test. I am curious about how much they really can hold. That way, consumers really know the worth of these high priced bags.

So the appeal must just be the usefulness of this bag because it certainly isn’t anything amazing to look at… I would rather have a Neverfull.

The Goyard is pretty but (regardless of the price) too flimsy. I prefer Neverfull too.

I would go with the All-In LV bag or the Neverfull too. They can take a lot of weight.

I have the old size (whatever that is) and use it all the time for things like the beach, travel and anytime I need a very lightweight bag. Mine gets pretty abused and yet it still looks great. The big size would be good for towels, but I can’t see putting books, computers or anything heavy (as you mentioned above) in there. So not sure what the big size would be used for to be honest.

After going in to a Goyard Boutique, I’ve decided not to purchase. The material is so flimsy. Not to mention the sales associate was snobby. He was not very helpful, does not want to show me a bag. I was well dressed, but was carrying an LV. He probably has something against LV.

FYI I never carry a handbag when I go into any designer boutiques… I dress minimally like all black but high end and just put my cards and cash in a small wallet in my pocket. I get less rudeness because they can’t quite tell… it gives off a good vibe but one they can’t pin down or stereotype. Maybe try that next time. SAs at high end places know what to look for…

That’s a great idea! I dress minimally, too, when I go shopping at designer boutiques that’s why I don’t get rudeness from SAs. But they shouldn’t be judgy of those who carry their competitor’s product…

He probably realizes that the LV Neverfull is far more superior bag. LOL

I had considered a goyard St. Louis as a baby bag but yea… not worth it yet it’s impractical as a beach bag. Who hangs at the beach with an almost 2K bag? Uh… not a wise idea! I picked the Neverfull instead, way way waaay sturdier. Just my 2cents

Nobody else sees how “nothing special” the Goyard tote is? I would believe the price if at the same level of Michael Kors

If I were ever to purchase a Goyard, it would be the Saigon. The flimsy St. Louis’ straps peel because they’re painted, and Goyard doesn’t really think that’s a big deal. So I don’t think the St. Louis is a big deal.
